Virgo the Virgin
23 August to 23 September
The Moon is: New Moon
Virgo (also called Astraes) was the daughter of Jupiter and Themsis and was goddess of Justice. When the Golden Age ended and men defied her rule, she returned to the heavens in disgust.
Ruled by the quick and lively planet Mercury, the messenger of the gods and with a feminine (receptive) nature, Virgo is reactive in its energy. A mutable (flexible and adaptable) sign, Virgo governs critical analysis, intellectual subtlety and service.
It is an earth (solid and stable) sign and you, the Virgoan, are practical and industrious with a remarkable eye for detail and a talent for discrimination.
The Virgo is forever seeking knowledge, which will bring everything under the control of the mind. You are meticulous in your work, paying a great deal of attention to detail and doing things carefully and efficiently, to enable order out of confusion.
Because you value work and have a great deal of respect for it, you will go to great lengths to help a friend find employment but will seldom raise a finger to help someone who gets into difficulties because they refuse to work.
Virgoans are much too practical and intelligent to allow anyone to make martyr out of you. When the demands made on you become excessive and unreasonable, you will say 'No!', with conviction.
At your best you are efficient and a brilliant performer of your duties. At times, however, you have a narrow outlook and may be unable to talk about anything except your work, and lack interest in anything that is not related to it.
You analyse your world in microscopic detail and can become engrossed with trivialities to the extent of being blind to the significance of the issue as a whole. You need to avoid mistaking your brilliant intellect, along with a tendency towards criticism, for heavenly wisdom and be absolutely dispassionate in evaluating both your own performance and the performance of others.
Virgoans function best and to the height of their power in careers that are related somehow to service. You are capable of great self-denial if you consider the work is worthy of it.
Virgo also rules Health and you need to learn that it isn't wise to exhaust your body energies by worrying, fretting, or overworking. Nevertheless, you have an outstanding physical resistance to disease, once the mind develops discipline. If a Virgoan can keep out of the clutches of disease, you become effective healing agents, having a good influence on the sick.
You are, however, continually trying out some new "diet" or fad and can be obsessed with your health in general and medicine and food can be quite harmful to you when you are angry or distressed. The Sign of the Ulcer!
Virgoans admire material progress and are fond of comfort and good clothes and are quite often a "leader" in fashion. However, it is hard for you to accumulate large sums of money because of your excessive expenditure! Although you are capable of having periods of savings, they never last.
Intellectually enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable.
You combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. With an excellent eye for detail you may be so meticulous that you neglect the larger issues.
Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are your hallmarks, however, if things go wrong, you can easily be discouraged because you are such a perfectionist.
With your ability to see every angle of a many-sided question, you are unhappy with abstract theorising and find philosophical concepts difficult.
Many Virgoans aren't interested in love adventures and often remain voluntarily unmarried; few measure up to your standards of perfection.
However, both sexes have considerable charm and dignity. In marriage you can be genuinely affectionate, making good spouses and parents, but your lovemaking is a perfection of technique rather than the expression of desire, and you must be careful not to mate with a partner whose sex drive requires a passion you cannot match!
Eloquence of words strung together like pearls are like music to your ears and often preferred to less subtle expressions of affection.
Outwardly you appear emotionally cold and, sometimes, this goes deeper. Your habit of suppressing your natural kindness may in the end cause it to atrophy, with the result that you shrink from committing yourself to friendship, make few friends and, those that you do make you are careful to keep at a superficial level.
Virgo Body & Health
The typical Virgoan is wiry and not especially tall or robust in build.
The face will often reveals constant use of the mind but have a pleasant, kindly air about it, especially the eyes. A broad jaw with pointed chin and well formed mouth below a thin nose and high forehead.
Virgo rules the hands, abdomen, intestines, spleen and central nervous system.
Illnesses to which Virgoans are prone include catarrh, cold, coughs, pleurises, pneumonia and nervous instabilities.
Your nature makes you inclined to worry and this makes you vulnerable to stomach and bowel troubles, including colic and, especially, ulcers.
Virgo rules the stomach area with the bowels and intestines. Organs such as the spleen would come under the influence of Virgo too. Virgoans share some of the characteristics of Gemini but tend to be sinewy rather than gangly as their Gemini relations do.
Virgoans tend to be perfectionist and usually take some care of the body. They can fall into the trap of following fads and fancies with health foods and special diets or exercise regimens that may not be of actual benefit. Hypochondria is also a concern.
Their health generally is good but, should ill-favoured aspects be manifest in the natal chart, care should be taken with diet. Virgoan fastidiousness usually takes care of this aspect of their life.
Virgo Career & Jobs
Responsibility irks Virgoans and you often lack the breadth of strategic vision that a leader needs. You are essentially a tactician, admirable in the attainment of limited objectives.
Career suggestions include:
analytical physicist, analytical chemist, editor, welfare worker, doctor, nurse, psychologist, teacher, secretary, statistician, accountant, bookkeeper, critic, inspector, craftsman.
